What is the best color for highlights to a person who has black hair?

I want to highlight my (black) hair but i dont' know what color would look best on black. Actually i just want to highlight the top layer of my hair since my hair is layered cut.What is the best color for highlights to a person who has black hair?

PINK! im not a huge fan of pink, but pink and black hair look AMAZING together. Pretty much anything would look great with black hair. Blue, blonde, etc. Blonde might look a little strange, but a dark hot pink would look great.
Definatelyyy go with a blondeish gold , my friend has it , and it is the prettiest thing everrrrrrr ! and Pink would look dumb , just because I think pretty much no one wants to walk around with permanently dyed pink hair(:

Blonde highlights in black hair look good. It makes a kind of bright. Red highlights are cute and bring out the black in the hair.
I love red highlights in black hair, and especially if they are mixed with some dark brown.
orange n goldish is real pretty i had it.
a brownish color will blend well with the dark colored hair you have.
