Can i use hair dye (dye thats meant for coloring the whole hair) and use it for highlights?

okay so ive already highlighted my hair a few months ago, and i want to add one streak of blonde, but i dont want to waste my money for one streak. soooo......i was wondering, what if i baught a box of blonde dye, and use it for highlights, would it work the same?

I would buy bleach and peroxide. As sometime the boxed packets dont work very well. then use foil from the kitchen. If you buy a small tub of bleach and small peroxide it would cost about the same as a box pack but last for a long time. check Ebay out or your local hair supplier.
