Can highlights wash out or can I color my hair and put it back to my original color?

I just put highlights in my hair today and I don't like it. The beautician said that it's not bleached. So does that mean it will eventually fade out? Can I die my hair or put a rinse in the same color. It used to be a light firey brown. I have never died my hair before or anything. I should have left it alone. Can highlights wash out or can I color my hair and put it back to my original color?
Hi!

We need more infomation to correctly answer this question. What color were you originally , what color are you now? Was lightner/ bleach used??

You can still fix this !!! If you start putting color over it you are compounding the problem . What you have to figure out is something called contributing pigment---

Consider this--if you mix red and white together you get pink.... meaning that if you have blonde highlights %26amp; try to color over thme with red you WILL get pink hair. (this is an example of Contributing pigment)

If your hair is a dark color not to far(2 levels or less) from your natural color you are in good shape.

If you are more than two levels lighter you will need to fill the hair first THEN-----color the hair back brown..

BEFORE YOU GO TO WAL-MART GO TO SALLY'S and they will help you OR come in to the salon.

Good Luck

there are highlights that stay in for 6 weeks and then wash out
if you try an all over dye then the spots where the highlights were will be a different shade wait a while (i know it sucks) and in time you will be able to find a GOOD beautician that will be able to get those spots dyed back to the natural color

also if you try all over color or rinses they will alter the rest of your hair for a while too cause there is no way to match it exactly and please dont try anything at home to fix this IT WONT WORK

I would wait a few weeks and give your hair some time to recover. Then find a dye that you like or matches your natural color and re-dye all of it to ensure it matches.
