EVERYONE is dying their heair black with red highlights. i personally go with bright colors, turquiose, purple...pink if it suits. streaked in together is hot too, i want to try a color with black streaks to make it pop. im a bright person, so color compliments my personality :) but youre going to have to lighten the sections your coloring, or else the color wont be true. they sell kits :) i recommend Manic Panic colors :)
as for you, i would go with whatever color in the crayon box you think suits you and fits you!

I think it depends on if your hair is dark brown or light brown,
If its dark I think a reddish brown would look good, like Cinnamon.
If its light brown then I say go pink.
Red looks awesome with brown. You could either do like a vibrant red or something deeper like a burgundy.

I used to have really blonde hair, but it has gotten darker as time has passed. My hair does not hold darker color very well, but recently I have been low-lighting it with a dark brown. Personally I like the last picture best.It is a more natural look with the color of the eyes.It gives you a more sophisticated look.So with that said,If you wanted a day at the beach look then definately brown with blonde highlights like the second picture.But if it is a formal affair then I would recommend the brown all the way.

Getting a subtle color is uausally the best bet, because highlights do not grow out in 6 months. Mine took 2 years to grow out (and my hair doesn't grow that slowly, either), and if you get a subtle color then it isn't too noticable when they start to grow out, but it looks really nice. Either way, I would suggest going to a good hairstylist and asking them what color would work. (Also, the highlights will get lighter if they get in chlorinated water, so if you want a lighter shade in the end, go swimming a few times, and no, it will not turn bright orange. My hair color is similar to yours and it just made my highlights a bit more bronzy-copperish color, which actually looked nice.) You hair looks good up or down (you're lucky in that sense, it doen't go that way for most people.)

I'm 23 years old and currently in college. I'm going to the hair stylist to get a make over, but was wondering if I should get my hair colored as well. I have black hair and would like to get some brown streaks or highlights. I have a job but only at a small office so they wouldn't care as much. However, after I finish up this semester I'm going to be applying to some bigger companies hoping to get a better job. I was wondering if my highlights would hurt my chances? My mom told me that getting a new haircut is okay, but coloring it is a bit immature. Light blonde (near platinum) doesn't look bad, imo. But I love unnatural colors.
But those fade and end up looking really ugly. So you need to keep up with dying them. I had to redye my highlights every 1-2 times I washed my hair.

Deep violets, reds or blue. They would all look very good with black hair. Stay away from blonde or brown they tend to look tiresome or unsuitable after a while. Darker stronger colours.

Light blonde (near platinum) doesn't look bad, imo. But I love unnatural colors.
But those fade and end up looking really ugly. So you need to keep up with dying them. I had to redye my highlights every 1-2 times I washed my hair.
I've had almost all colors, and my favorite has been hot pink. If you have good dye, pretty much any color like this will look good.

How long should i wait to re dye my hair(back to original color) after getting highlights which i don't like?
I got my hair highlighted last weekend and i really dont like them. they are to light for me my brown/black eyebrows stick out compared to my highlighted hair. i want my natural color back and to get rid of highlights forever. i dont want to ruin my hair but i want my natural color back by this weekend but it's only been one week with these highlights and i'm not sure if getting my natural color back by dying it professionaly will ruin my hair! help please!How long should i wait to re dye my hair(back to original color) after getting highlights which i don't like?
You can dye it back now, as long as your going darker not lighter. Hair color does not really damage your hair, unless it has a lift in it. Going shades darker right now is fine, lighter wouldn't be. It actually helps to protect your hair and does a pretty good job at making it shinier and look healthier as well. I will warn you though, get it done professionally, at least this time...oh and the highlights will probably pull back through a little after a few washes but they will look natural and not be as light as they are now. Anyway, at least wait a week, wash your hair with PERT or PRELL which always helped me (it seems) to get rid of the colour that I didn't like. I color my hair myself. I have done highlights for so long, my natural color is lost, and I would like to put a base color (similar to my own natural color) in, and then highlight. How soon can I highlight after putting the base color in? I'm not interested in one of the kits with the base and highlights, as I am only really good with the cap and hook highlighting...Highlighting my hair after coloring?

You know it depends on your skin tone, if you have a bronzey kind like mine, well then you should get caramel highlights like i do, but if you're more pale, a rich brown would help and if you're really dark then a chestnut would help.

A lot would depend on your skin tone, eye color and your own personal preferences.
There's a lot of colors available and you could always go to the store where they have little samples of the colors on fake hair and hold that up to your head and choose that way. Who knows you might even prefer a totally different shade.
Why not try a little experimentation with both colors, wear one for a few days to see if you like it or not and then switch to the other color for a few days.

My hair is medium brown and I dyed it dark brown for 2 years and just recently went to highlights. I have had them for about 6 months and want to go back to the dark brown. I'm not sure how long to wait to get my hair dyed back to dark brown since I got the roots touched up a week ago. i don't like to dye my hair more than once every 2 weeks. sometimes i'll do it more often if a color didn't take or come out quite how i wanted it to. just be aware of the fact that by dying your hair often you are putting harsh drying chemicals on your hair and scalp. if you dye your hair much before the 4 week mark, i'd really recommend using a deep conditioner and trying to pamper your hair a bit til it bounces back. dry it less, don't take a flatten or curling iron to it if you don't have to.
also know that the lighter your highlights and the sooner you dye over it the lighter your end result will probably end up after you put the darker color over it.

Which color of hair highlights would be best?
I'm thinking about getting highlights in my hair, but I'm not exactly sure what color would look best. My hair is a, I'd think, warm-toned medium brown, that being my natural color. I guess if skin tone and eye color matter as well, my skin color is somewhat pale, having a neutral tone as well. Eye color is hazel(more like an olive green surrounding a light brown).

As far as how long they last it depends on the type of dye that is used. Some is made to last only a specified number of washings, while permanent is just that, though it will fade over time. You'll have to get the permanent redone because of roots before it fades drastically if you take care of your hair.
Whatever you do, don't try to go blond or light brown...it will just get a hideous orange. I think you should go with a nice cinnamon or another dark red color....they won't get brassy. The length that they stay in depends on the color you use, shampoo, etc.

Red, brown, or light brown highlights is good for your kind of hair. it might last well it depends.
subtle is best. gradually go lighter if you want more dramatic results or are unhappy with the subtle highlights
gold or a redish burgundy. It really depends if your doing them your self they should last about 3 to 6 shampoo's. Professional I would give it 6 weeks.

I would recommend getting auburn highlights, that would go very well I think.
The color highlights that would look best on you really depends on your skin color undertones.... your stylist can help you find a shade that is appropriate for your coloration. But in general I've always thought red or burgundy highlights looked really nice on dark hair.
As far as how long they last it depends on the type of dye that is used. Some is made to last only a specified number of washings, while permanent is just that, though it will fade over time. You'll have to get the permanent redone because of roots before it fades drastically if you take care of your hair.
Whatever you do, don't try to go blond or light brown...it will just get a hideous orange. I think you should go with a nice cinnamon or another dark red color....they won't get brassy. The length that they stay in depends on the color you use, shampoo, etc.

There are also products that you brush in like mascara, or with other types of brushes that are completely temporary and none-damaging.
You might also consider colored extensions if you only want splashes of color.
I had light blonde highlights in my hair and bought a HOT PINK hair dye from ';Sallys';, when it finally all washed out (after like 4-5 washes) my highlightes werent pink, but they were def. darker than what they were. I would make a quick call to a hairstylist and ask them real quick.

Since you're base is dark brown I would add warm colors like caramel/honey brown/blonde. With red highlights, I think a black base looks better... :)
